For the past year, professional tennis player and Lock Laces ® ambassador, Kevin King has had his eye on the Australian Open. Getting into the main draw of the tournament would be a pivotal moment in his career because it would finally put him on the same stage amongst the best tennis players in the world. Yesterday, this opportunity became a reality for King.
This victory punched King’s ticket to the main draw of Australian Open. Tomorrow, he will face off against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France. Tsonga is ranked 15th in the world and has 14 years of experience on the pro circuit. The young American from Peachtree, Georgia will carry his momentum and energetic spirit into the match against Tsonga.
To qualify for the main draw, King had to win three matches against quality opponents. He defeated Zdenek Kolar of the Czech Republic and Uladzimir Ignatik from Belarus, who is currently ranked 25 spots higher than King, before his most recent match against Australian native, John-Patrick Smith of Australia. However, King now focuses on what lies before him; Tsonga.
While Tsonga is a seasoned veteran and has a swing that could send a tennis ball into orbit, his match with King will be his first after withdrawing from Doha due to a wrist injury. He will have to be on his toes when he faces King’s fresh momentum and ability to go hard from the first serve to the final point of a match.
King and Tsonga will face off at 4:15 a.m. EST on Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne, Australia. #WinNeverTie
